Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has shared his verdict on Virat Kohli breaking the record of former Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli reached his 47th ODI century during the Asia Cup Super Four match against Pakistan on September 11. He scored 122 runs and India got a convincing win of 228 runs.
With this century, Virat Kohli also reached the milestone of 13,000 runs in his ODI career. In just 267 innings, he became the fastest to achieve this feat in ODI cricket. Before him, Sachin Tendulkar stood at first with his 13,000 runs in 321 innings.
Kohli’s 47th ODI century also marked his 77th century in international cricket with 29 centuries in Test cricket and one in T20I cricket. While he still has a considerable journey ahead to approach Sachin Tendulkar’s incredible record of 100 international centuries he is now very close to Tendulkar’s long standing ODI record of 49 centuries.
Former Indian middle-order batter Suresh Raina said that Kohli will easily surpass the ODI records of Sachin Tendulkar’s 49th century record in the upcoming series against Australia.
“Virat Kohli looks in great touch and has been batting exceptionally. Sachin paaji has 49 and Virat has 47. I think he can get his fiftieth hundred by the India-Australia series, batting at No. 3, there are a lot of overs as well and we know he loves to play against Australia,” Raina said on JioCinema” Insiders Live.

“So, I would say yes, he can break Tendulkar’s record. He’s been really enjoying his batting and seems to be in a really good headspace after the birth of his daughter and a partner who constantly supports him. Also, the way he’s been monitoring his cricket and fitness as always. I am sure that Virat is only thinking about defeating Australia 3-0 and not about paaji’s record,” he added.
