Mushfiqur Rahim To Miss India vs Bangladesh Asia Cup Match After BCB Extends His Leave- Report
Bangladesh’s hopes of bowing out of Asia Cup 2023 on a winning note have taken a big hit as they will be playing their final game of the competition without veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim.
The Bangla Tigers have only pride to play for in the Asia Cup. They are out of the race for the final after losing to Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Super 4. Bangladesh will lock horns against India in their final Super 4 game. The match is scheduled to take place on Friday (September 15) at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
There would not be much to play for in the game. India have already booked their place in the final and will be looking to win the game to extend their winning run in Asia Cup 2023. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be desperate to register a morale-boosting win ahead of the World Cup and bow of the continental championship with their heads held high.
They, however, will have to do it without their former captain Mushfiqur Rahim. The right-handed batsman has been granted an extension of leave by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to be with his newborn child and family. On Sunday (September 10), Mushfiqur Rahim as well as captain Shakib Al Hasan had returned to Dhaka after the Super 4 game against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
They were granted a three-day leave. While Shakib returned home for personal reasons, Mushfiqur Rahim flew home to attend the birth of his second child. Both the players were expected to return to Sri Lanka for the game against India. However, Mushfiqur Rahim has been given permission to stay with his family and miss the final game in the Asia Cup.
Mushfiqur Rahim’s performance in Asia Cup 2023:
Talking about Mushfiqur Rahim’s performance in the Asia Cup, the senior batsman has registered scores of 13, 25, 64 and 29. With 131 runs from 4 games, he is the third-highest run-scorer for Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023.
As far as Bangladesh are concerned, they began their campaign in the Asia Cup with a 5-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka. The Shakib Al Hasan-led side then bounced back with an 89-run win over Afghanistan and booked their place in the Super 4. In the Super 4, they lost to Pakistan by 7 wickets before Sri Lanka beat them by 21 runs.
