Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar criticized Pakistan’s batting performance during their last Super Four match against India in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Sunil Gavaskar expressed concerns about the depth of Pakistan’s batting department following a 228-run loss.
The Babar Azam-led team suffered a massive loss against archrivals India at the R. Premadasa Stadium on the reserve day, Monday, September 11. The Men in Green were bundled out for just 128 runs while chasing a mammoth total of 357 runs in Colombo.
How Many Players Does Pakistan Have? – Sunil Gavaskar
In an interview with India Today, Sunil Gavaskar said that India could have successfully defended their score of 266 in the group stage if the game had not been interrupted.
“In cricket, there are no ifs and buts. But the way Pakistan batted today, it seemed India would have been able to defend 266 the other day if the game (1st match) had carried on,” Gavaskar told India Today.
“You know people, particularly in Pakistan, keep on talking about India having only one or two players. I mean how many players does Pakistan have? Particularly in the batting department. Apart from Babar who do they have?” he added.
Pakistan registered their second-worst defeat in ODI history, with the previous record being a 234-run loss to Sri Lanka in 2009. The chances of Babar Azam’s team qualifying for the final of the continental tournament depend on their next Super Four match against Sri Lanka.
None Of Them Would Scare The Bowling Group – Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar criticized Pakistan’s batting lineup, noting that the team didn’t have a batter who could pose a significant threat to the opposition bowlers besides Babar Azam.
“When the bowling team of the opposition sit down and dissects their batting, they would spend a lot of time on how to get Babar out. But I don’t think they would spend half the time on the others. None of them are such that they would scare the bowling group of the opposition team,” he further added.
Virat Kohli (122) and KL Rahul (111) scored unbeaten centuries to help the team reach a total of 356/2. In response, Pakistan’s batters struggled to score against Indian bowlers, with none of the batters reaching a half-century. Opener Fakhar Zaman was the top scorer in the lineup, scoring 27 runs off 50 balls.
