Huge Blow For Sussex! Captain Cheteshwar Pujara Faces Suspension

An extremely unwanted event happened in the County championship. Indian Batter Cheteswar Pujara was representing Sussex in the County Championship. 12 points have also been deducted from the Sussex team for the disciplinary issue in the match. Pujara also faced a suspension. After getting four penalties, the England Cricket Board has suspended this Indian batter for one match.

What is the matter?

Sussex has received a 12-point deduction in the county championship. Cheteswar Pujara got suspended for one match. The suspension was about the disciplinary issue. He has been suspended for the game against Derbyshire for a fourth disciplinary charge over his team.

The four penalties in a single season caused a 12-point deduction under the regulation 4.29. As per regulation 3, a captain who is leading a side in all matches where the penalty has been received shall also be suspended for one match. This will happen after crossing four penalties.  Sussex decided to stand down other three players- Jack Carson, Tom Haines, and Ari Karvelas.

Because of that mishap, Sussex dropped to the fifth position. Only two games are remaining in the season. Carson spoke to umpires while chasing 499 after trying to clash with Ben Cox while he was completing a run at the non-strickler. Hains also apologized for the heated argument.

After story:

The Sussex coach Farbrace said,” We have made Jack and Tom unavailable for selection for this game at Derbyshire.” Later he added,” Ultimately it has cost us the availability of Cheteshwar Pujara and we have been deducted 12 points.”

He also said,” It is a great shame that these incidents have tarnished what was a fantastic game against Leicestershire, and all the hard work that has gone into the season. I am disappointed for our fantastic members and supporters and can assure them we will be working hard to make sure we are not into this position again.”

It is hard luck of Sussex. Earlier this season, umpires warned about  Pujara’s guilty of a level 1 offense. But this time it is a serious setback for this county team. After dropping 12 points Sussex dropped in the fifth spot. This deduction has become a big issue in fighting for the second spot in Division One. Worcestershire is in the second position with 154 points and Leicestershire is in third with 133 points.
