2025/26 KRU Championship standings after week 9

2025/26 KRU Championship standings after week 9

With only two rounds remaining in the KRU Championship, the race for top honours, playoff qualification, and survival has reached boiling point.

The current standings paint a picture of a fiercely contested season, with just fine margins separating the leading pack and a tense battle brewing at the bottom.

Mwamba RFC sit at the summit with 36 points after nine matches, winning seven and losing two. They have accumulated eight bonus points and boast a healthy +122 points difference, the best defensive record in the league with only 139 points conceded.

Hot on their heels are JKUAT Cougars and SC Pirates, both tied on 34 points. JKUAT edge Pirates on head to head record, but Pirates have the stronger attacking output with 217 points scored. Any slip from Mwamba in the final two rounds could see the standings reshuffled dramatically.

With the top two teams guaranteed a direct home semi-final, every bonus point now carries enormous weight.

Catholic Monks, currently fourth with 32 points, remain firmly in contention for a top-two finish. Just four points separate them from the leaders, meaning back-to-back wins could catapult them into a direct semi-final berth.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

NYS Spades (24 points) put the in fifth, but Homeboyz RFC and Kisii RFC (both on 22 points) are still within striking distance. Mean Machine, on 20 points, are not out of the race either.

With positions three to six heading into playoffs, the fight for a favourable seeding will be critical. A higher finish could mean a more manageable playoff tie, and potentially home advantage.

The margins are razor thin, and head-to-head encounters in the remaining rounds could define seasons.

Mombasa RFC (18 points) have shown flashes of brilliance but have struggled with consistency. They have enough breathing room to avoid the drop.

USIU Martials (12 points) and Zetech Oaks (10 points) are in danger territory. Zetech, in particular, have a troubling defensive record, conceding 272 points , the highest in the division, and a points difference of -103.

The bottom two teams face relegation, and Western Bulls, currently last with just five points, are staring at the drop. With only two wins all season and a points difference of -141, their survival hopes are slim and will require maximum points from their remaining fixtures, and help from elsewhere.

Zetech Oaks are only five points above the Bulls and cannot afford complacency. USIU Martials are not safe either. Eight bonus points have kept them afloat, but with a -58 points difference and only one win all season, they must find form quickly.
