Top 2-Start Options and Matchup Plays: Week 2

Tarik Skubal (DET) @MIN, vs. MIA — Both the Twins (20.6% strikeout rate) and Marlins (15.6%) are tough on lefties, but Skubal is no ordinary pitcher.

Chris Sale (ATL) @LAA, vs. CLE — This should be a big strikeout week for Sale. The Angels strikeout rate vs. RHP is 26% and the Guardians are at 32%.

Hunter Brown (HOU) @COL, @SEA — The Rockies (23.4% strikeout rate) and Mariners (26.2%) will provide strikeout fodder for Brown.

Logan Gilbert (SEA) @TEX, vs. HOU — Gilbert will have to work for it with the Rangers (23.3%) and Astros (20.7%) both average against RHP.

Jacob deGrom (TEX) vs. SEA, @LAD — deGrom should be fine against the Mariners, whose strikeout rate is 26.6% against RHP, but watch out against the Dodgers who’ve been tough on righties thus far with just a 13.5% strikeout rate.

Cole Ragans (KC) @CLE, vs. CWS — The Guardians have been a tough strikeout for LHP at just 17.9%, but the White Sox are a league-worst 45.5% against lefties.

Joe Ryan (MIN) vs. DET, @TOR — Ryan should fare well against the Tigers’ 30% strikeout rate vs. RHP. The Blue Jays will be a little tougher at 20.4%.

Freddy Peralta (NYM) vs. ARI, vs. ATH — Peralta gets two home starts and should pile up the strikeouts against the Diamondbacks with a 27.3% strikeout rate and the A’s with a league-worst 39% rate against RHP.

Shohei Ohtani(LAD) @TOR, vs. TEX — The Dodgers are likely going with a 6-man starting rotation, so don’t plan on Ohtani starting twice.

Brandon Woodruff (MIL) @BOS, vs. WSH — The Red Sox strike out 32,2% of the time vs. RHP.

Cam Schlittler (NYY) vs. ATH, @TB — Schlittler should feast on the A’s (39% K%) but the Rays may be tougher at just 17.2% vs. RHP.

Nick Pivetta (SD) @PIT, vs. COL — Things should go betta for Pivetta since the Pirates (27% K%) and the Rockies (23.4%) both strike out above the league average.

Andrew Abbott (CIN) @MIA, vs. LAA — Miami is tough on lefties at an 18% strikeout rate but the Angels at 36.4% should be no problem.

Bubba Chandler (PIT) vs. SDP, @CHC — The Padres should be easy for Chandler with their 26.6% strikeout rate vs. RHP, but the Cubs will be tough at 19%.

Sandy Alcantara (MIA) vs. CIN, @DET — Alcantra might have the best pair of matchups this week with the Reds and their 27.3% strikeout rate, and the Tigers at 29.7%.

Tanner Bibee (CLE) vs. KC, @ATL — Bibee will have his work cut out for him with the Royals and their 20% strikeout rate vs. RHP and the Braves at 20.5%.

Zac Gallen (ARI) @NYM, @PHI — Gallen is going to have to earn it on the road against the Mets with their 18.9% strikeout rate vs. RHP, and the Phillies at 21.1%.

Must-Stream Arms with High-Upside Weeks

Andrew Painter (PHI) @SFG, vs. ARI — The rookie has a pair of decent matchups against the Giants and their 23.8% strikeout rate, and the Diamondbacks at 27.3% vs. RHP.

Noah Cameron (KC) @CLE, vs. CWS — The Guardians are tough on LHP with just an 18% strikeout rate, but he’ll make it up against the White Sox who are a league-worst 45.5%.

Brayan Bello (BOS) vs. MIL, @STL — The Brewers at just a 16.5% strikeout rate vs. RHP and the Cardinals (22.6%) may be a challenge for Bello.

Casey Mize (DET) @MIN, vs. MIA — The Twins should be a K fest for Mize with their 29.3% strikeout rate against RHP.

Nick Lodolo (CIN) @MIA, vs. LAA —This is pending the outcome of his Thursday rehab start. If all goes well he has a decent matchup against the Angels 36.4% strikeout rate.

Arms with Tough Schedules or Poor Form

Shane Smith (CWS) vs. BAL, @KC — Smith can’t be trusted.

Max Scherzer (TOR) vs. LAD, vs. MIN — Mad Max may have something left in the tank but I don’t want to risk it against the Dodgers. You could stream him against the Twins.

Jameson Taillon (CHC) @TB, vs. PIT — He didn’t pitch well against the Angels. No thanks.

Dean Kremer (BAL) @CWS, vs. SF — There must be some reason the O’s sent Kremer to the minors.

Taj Bradley (MIN) vs. DET, @TOR — He looked good in his first outing but I’m not a believer yet.

Zack Littell (WSH) vs. STL, @MIL

Kyle Freeland (COL) vs. HOU, @SD

Adrian Houser (SF) vs. PHI, @BAL

Aaron Civale (ATH) @NYY, @NYM

Janson Junk (MIA) vs. CIN, @DET

German Marquez (SD) @PIT, vs. COL

Ryan Feltner (COL) vs. HOU, @SD

Erick Fedde (CWS) vs. BAL, @KC

Andre Pallante (STL) @WSH, vs. BOS
