During the 1st Day of their first Test against South Africa in Mirpur that witnessed fall of 16 wickets, Bangladesh made a comeback which was led by left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. South Africa finished their match with a lead of 34 runs at the stumps. This was due to a solid partnership between lower-order batter Wiaan Mulder and wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne.
The pitch in the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur helped the spinners pacers all day. Hasan Mahmud was the only pacer for Bangladesh, while South Africa had two pacers. The Mirpur Test made history as it had the highest wickets lost on the 1st Day of a Test in Bangladesh, which is 16 wickets.
After Bangladesh were done in just 40.1 overs, Taijul Islam stole the show with his bowling. He bagged five wickets and destroyed the SA batting lineup. This has come out to be his 14th fifer in Test cricket.
With this game of five wickets, he has achieved a big milestone as he became the second Bangladesh bowler in history to take 200 wickets in Tests. The first place is held by Shakib Al Hasan.
