Australia is a squad that will enter transition soon. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three Australian cricketers who could retire from ODIs after the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
1) Glenn Maxwell
Maxi‘s role in the ODI setup is not very clear. For him, as well, amidst these injuries, he would want to see where he wants to go in his career.
Becoming a freelance T20 cricketer while playing for Australia in T20Is could be a choice. It needs to be noted that he will be key for Australia in the 2026 T20 World Cup which will happen in India.
2) Mitchell Starc could retire after Champions Trophy
Mitchell Starc is one of the Australian cricketers who could retire from ODIs after the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The ODI World Cup has always been Starc’s competition.
However, for a player who will be 37 by the time the 2027 ODI World Cup starts, a decision has to be made. Australia might rather want Starc to extend his career in Tests.
3) Marcus Stoinis
If Cameron Green had been fit, Stoinis might not have got a chance in the first place. Nevertheless, Stoinis is in decent form and could do a decent job.
However, Stoinis might want to focus more on the T20 format in the last few years of his career. Hence, he could step aside from the ODI format.
