3 Indian players who were excluded from 1st Test

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 16-man squad for the first Test against Bangladesh recently. Rohit Sharma will lead the troops from the front whereas Shubman Gill is likely to serve his deputy. The Test opener will kick off on September 19, Thursday at Chepauk.

India and Bangladesh have locked horns with each other 13 times in the history of Test cricket. Overall, India have won 11 games whereas Bangladesh are yet to open their account. The remaining two games ended in draws. It will be quite interesting to see how the Tigers will go about their work this time.

The second Test will be held on September 27 at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Meanwhile, in this article, let’s now take a look at the three Indian players who were excluded from Chepauk Test against Bangladesh.

1. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer was overlooked by the selectors owing to his inconsistent form in red-ball cricket. His recent performances weren’t up to the mark and the selectors were not so convinced as well. He also featured in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, where he failed to make his presence count.

His woeful form continued in Duleep Trophy tournament wherein he scored just 9 runs in the first innings. Although he made the amends with his fifty in the second innings, his inconsistency is one of the main reasons why the Indian team management didn’t pick him for the Chepauk Test.

With Sarfaraz Khan making a telling impact in his debut series against England earlier this year, and KL Rahul continuing to deliver consistent performances in the Test set-up, Shreyas Iyer now finds himself slipping down the pecking order.
