LSG might buy a few big names to replace Rahul and other quality players they released before the auction.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were among the most consistent sides in the previous cycle, qualifying for playoffs twice in three editions. However, the last season didn’t go according to expectations, leading to the owners releasing some big names.
Among them was their captain, opener, and wicketkeeper batter – KL Rahul – who grabbed the limelight on the retention deadline. Hence, LSG might buy a few big names to replace Rahul and other quality players they released before the auction.
We look at three marquee players LSG might target in the IPL 2025 auction.
Jos Buttler
Lucknow Super Giants have released KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock. While they have Nicholas Pooran as a wicketkeeper batter, they would still want another quality option who can open the innings, and there are few better than Buttler.
He can bat according to the situation and has the game against pace and spin to ace any condition in the shortest format. He can also lead the team since LSG need a captain after parting ways with KL Rahul.

David Miller
Lucknow Super Giants need a pace-hitter below Nicholas Pooran, and David Miller has performed this role for years. He is powerful against pace and has a decent game against spin, making him an ideal No.5.
Further, as per the requirement, he can be flexible with his batting position and bat anywhere between No.4 and 6. Being an LHB, he will also bring variety to the batting attack.
Shreyas Iyer
While LSG have Nicholas Pooran as their spin-hitter, they would still want another spin-basher at No.3, preferably an RHB. Shreyas Iyer ticks those boxes and stabilises the batting attack that comprises big hitters.
Iyer has previously led two IPL teams successfully and brings vast captaincy experience. LSG can look at him as their next leader for the coming cycle.
