3 mistakes Australia did in the 2024 T20 World Cup

Australia could not qualify for the semifinals of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The team was one of the favourites and they had all the resources to make it to the finals and even win the trophy. However, some errors cost them their place in the knockouts. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three mistakes Australia did in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

1) Not giving captaincy to Pat Cummins

Mitchell Marsh is a good captain but when there is an option like Pat Cummins in the team, it is better to trust him. Anyways, in the IPL, Cummins was doing well as a skipper while Marsh has not had a lot of games to captain.

May be, this choice also put pressure on Marsh and he could not bring the best out with his bat. If Cummins had been the skipper, there would have been more consistency from Australia.

2) Not having a proper backup for Tim David

Not having a proper backup for Tim David is one of the mistakes Australia did in the 2024 T20 World Cup. It was always going to be difficult for Tim David on the slow tracks in the West Indies.

Despite this, Australia did not have a backup plan for Tim David. As expected, he could not do his best and Australia had no other option but to keep him in the squad. They could have even tried a different batting order to get the best out of the attack.

3) Keeping Mitchell Starc out for a few matches

It might have been due to the combination but keeping Starc out was a big mistake from Australia. Against India, he looked rusty and Rohit Sharma took him apart.

A player like Starc needs backing even when he is not in great touch. That happened in IPL 2024 but KKR trusted him and Starc returned with 2 MoM performances in the playoffs.
