Before Delhi Capitals, Ricky Ponting served for a few seasons at Mumbai Indians. It was a decent tenure with one IPL trophy coming. Some players from that batch could be on the target list for Ricky. 1) Krunal Pandya
Krunal Pandya might have to be released by LSG. This is mainly because he may not be worth the retention fee before a Mega Auction.
Punjab Kings could target the player because of the value he adds to the side. Many times, PBKS have had to suffer a collapse in the batting order. With someone like Krunal, they can use him as a floater. Of course, his main job will be with the ball, which he usually does well.
2) Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma is one of the players whom Ricky Ponting worked with at Mumbai Indians and could target for Punjab. As per reports, Mumbai Indians are all set to release Rohit Sharma. It will be a big race for the franchises to sign the iconic player.
Punjab Kings might need a player of Rohit’s experience at the top of the order. Ricky Ponting has worked with him together and the duo has also delivered at trophy at Mumbai Indians. Rohit can come in as the skipper for at least the next two campaigns.
3) Nitish Rana
It is hard to get a domestic left-handed middle-order batter good against spin. Nitish is one such player. KKR might have to release him because of other priority retentions. Hence, he could go under the hammer.
Apart from his batting skills, Nitish can be a decent captaincy choice. He has a season of experience at KKR. Therefore, Ponting could target him as a key member of the side.
