3 Positives and 3 Negatives to take from Bayer Leverkusen 2 Newcastle 2

It ended Bayer Leverkusen 2 Newcastle 2.

Ahead of each game we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives following the match.

An interesting match at the BayArena.

Plenty to talk about after this Champions League game.

On this occasion it is David Punton:

Wonderkid makes grade

It was really encouraging to see Lewis Miley play so well on the biggest stage of them all.

That was a tough game, against a tough opponent, and Miley proved that he can cut the mustard.

This was backed up by a nice headed goal to stun the German fans. It very nearly gave us a famous win.

He needs to keep this up. Performances like that at the age of 19 is a great sign that the lad ca go all the way to the top.

Gordon form

You have to say that Anthony Gordon’s form in the Champions League has been nothing short of excellent.

He’s getting goals and he’s starting to play well again.

Share of the spoils

We’d all have taken a draw at the BayArena.

On paper this looked really hard, but we emerged having almost won the game. new hit the woodwork twice and came within minutes of seeing it out.

The draw puts us way ahead of where I thought we’d be in the league phase of the competition.

At the very least we’re hopefully going to get a play off.

NEGATIVES

Letting it slip

The flipside of almost holding on for the win, is that we saw yet another match where we conceded late.

Will this ever stop?

It’s happening far too often.

What are they doing in training to try and manage games late on?

Joelinton injury

Ahead of the derby on Sunday it appears we may well be without Joelinton’s midfield power.

He’s come off with what appeared to be a groin injury and I’ve a feeling that won’t have healed in time for the Sunderland match.

Sandro form

Tonali’s form has definitely dipped.

He’s human. It can happen.

I’m really hoping we can see better from the Italian over the festive games.

He’s a big player and we need him playing well.
