Rohit Sharma has retired from Tests. It will be interesting to see who becomes the next skipper. At the moment, the name of Shubman Gill is heard the strongest in this regard. Here, we take a look at the list of three reasons why Shubman Gill must not be appointed as the next Indian Test captain.
1) Average record in the SENA Nations
Ever since his debut, Gill has not held a good record in the SENA Nations. This is key for any Indian batter to take on leadership. Since Gill’s record is average in this regard, it will be tough to afford him as the skipper of the Test squad.
2) Insufficient leadership experience is why Gill must not be made the next Indian Test captain
When Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli became captains, they already had a lot of experience as the vice-captains. However, that has not happened with Gill. He has hardly been in this role for India. Hence, it could be risky to give him this role.
3) Unclear batting spot
Shubman Gill has opened the batting, operated at No.3 and has even been marketed for the No.5 spot. A few feel he would be Virat’s ideal successor at No.4. With so much variations in his likely best spot in the side, he will be under pressure to always prove with the bat.
