Rishabh Pant made his longest awaited comeback in 2024 both for his IPL side Delhi Capitals and India in their victorious T20 World Cup campaign. Though not at his brutal best in the format, Pant looked in a decent touch in both the tourneys. In-fact, leading from the front, Pant was the Capitals’ highest run-scorer of IPL 2024 with 446 runs in 13 innings while striking at over 155.
Despite these efforts, Rishabh Pant may not feature in the Capitals’ scheme of things in IPL 2025. In the past week, the franchise had announced they have parted ways with their long-time head coach Ricky Ponting and as per reports, Delhi are contemplating whether to continue with Pant or not in the coming edition. This is a huge development as Rishabh is not only their captain but also DC’s leading run-getter with 3284 runs in 111 games.
If the reports the franchise leaving the wicket-keeper comes true, then it could really shake up the auction pool in IPL 2025. Rishabh Pant will not just enter the mega-auctions, but could also become the most sought out player. Any team will be happy to see Pant in their side but some franchises could start a bidding war in the acutions. In this article, we will the 3 franchises that could target Rishabh Pant.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
With MS Dhoni in the last phase of his illustrious career and possibly played his last game for CSK ever, the franchise will want a replacement.
There is no better wicket-keeper batter in the circuit more than Rishabh Pant to fill the void left by the legendary CSK skipper. The rapport shared between Dhoni and Pant is well known and this could make the latter’s inclusion in CSK a reality if he does leave the Capitals.
Gujarat Titans (GT)
Gujarat Titans, the former IPL champions will also want to include a solid keeper-batter in their squad. Presently, they have veterans Wriddhiman Saha and Mathew Wade to look after that department.
But with them not getting any younger and lack of runs from the duo at the top of the order, GT may need to look at alternatives come the auctions. Pant could be that option and he would lend a lot of balance to the Shubman Gill-led side.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Like the above mentioned teams, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru is also in need of wicket-keeper following the retirement of Dinesh Karthik.
This is where Pant can be a useful addition as he would bolster the RCB batting attack and also could be part of their leadership group. With most of their played at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Pant’s inclusion to RCB can be a game changer for the team.
