Umran Malik will be on the radar of several teams during the IPL 2025 auction because the potential is massive.
Umran Malik rose to fame for his high speed; he could bowl at 145+ km/h and agitated batters with his pace. His best came during IPL 2022, snaring 22 wickets at an average of 20.18 and a strike rate of 13.40 in 14 innings.
However, he couldn’t maintain consistency, and his pace became his enemy. Umran started leaking runs and soon became out of favour, and he also started injured frequently.
Still, he will be on the radar of several teams during the IPL 2025 auction because the potential is massive. Hence, we look at three teams that will target Umran Malik in the impending auction.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) might be among the first teams to target Umran Malik during the IPL 2025 auction. They have released Mitchell Starc and will need someone who could partner with Harshit Rana.
While Andre Russell is a terrific enforcer, his fitness can be a concern, and KKR would want another option in the squad. Umran will also grow massively under Bharat Arun.

Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians (MI) have lacked a quality pacer to provide support to Jasprit Bumrah, even though they have tried a few options. Umran Malik’s attributes will make him an ideal pacer for MI’s home ground Wankhede Stadium, where the bowlers get extra bounce and carry.
He will also ease some workload of Bumrah, and under the prudent guidance of MI, he will re-find his lost form. His presence will allow Hardik Pandya to focus on his main strength – bowling with the new ball.
Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have left out Yash Thakur and Yudhvir Singh Charak before the IPL 2025 auction. They would have at least a couple of slots open in their squad for speedsters and will target Umran Malik.
His partnership with Mayank Yadav will make LSG’s bowling attack lethal and too hot to handle for the opponents. His inclusion will solve middle-over problems, while Umran can also bowl effectively in other phases if worked on specific areas.
