IPL 2025: The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) will see a mega auction ahead of the start of the season. It will be the same as we saw in 2022. We might see a lot of chopping and changing as there is a limitation on retention.
Many big names will come under the hammer because a team can only retain a maximum of 4 or 6 players. Some teams even release their captain, which will change the whole scenario.

3. Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants made their IPL debut in 2022 during the mega auction. KSG appointed KL Rahul as the captain of the team. LSG also made two playoffs in three seasons.
But some reports confirm that they will be releasing Rahul and will look for a new captain for the IPL 2025. It will be interesting to know whether they will appoint the captain from the retained list or will they buy someone and appoint him the captain.
2. Punjab Kings
Shikhar Dhawan is the captain of Punjab Kings, and Sam Curran is a stand-in captain. PBKS has not made the playoffs since 2014. So, it’s been a long time now. Neither Dhawan nor Curran could lead the team to the playoffs.
Hence, PBKS is desperate for a good show in the IPL 2025. Hence, the franchise might look to build a new team with a new captain who can lead them further.
1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are one of the teams that have not won the IPL title until now despite playing since the beginning. Currently, Faf du Plessis is leading the side since 2022, and RCB has made it to the playoffs in two seasons.
But until now, they haven’t gotten their hands on the trophy. Du Plessis is 40 years old, and retaining him for another 3 years can be a dicey decision. Hence, RCB will also be among the team, who might go for captain’s shopping at the 2025 auction.
