5.3 magnitude quake rattles Jamaica

KINGSTON –  An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 rocked Jamaica on Friday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The Earthquake Unit at the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies, said the quake, which occurred at 8:01 a.m. (local time) had its epicentre located approximately six kilometers northeast of Golden Spring in St Andrew.

The tremor was reportedly felt in the capital  Kingston and St Andrew, as well as several other parishes including St Catherine, St James, Manchester, St Mary and St Thomas. (CMC)
