RCB have had some of the finest Indian and overseas players in the history of the league.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been among the most popular teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While they haven’t a trophy yet, RCB came close twice but fell short in the final.
However, one thing is certain: they have been entertainers of the highest order and have achieved remarkable things on the field. The main reason is their superior personnel, for RCB have had some of the finest Indian and overseas players.
Along the same lines, we look at the five finest overseas players to play for RCB in IPL history.
Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle is easily one of the greatest batters to play in the Indian Premier League, and his presence was enough to terrorise the bowlers. While playing for RCB, he has 3420 runs at an average of 43.29 and a strike rate of 154.40 in 90 IPL innings.
Further, he also has 21 fifties and five fifties for them, making him one of the most successful batters in the league. Overall, he is the third-leading run-scorer for RCB in the IPL.
AB de Villiers
AB de Villiers was a runaway match-winner and another sensational batter for RCB in the league. He has 4522 runs at an average of 41.10 and a strike rate of 158.33 in 145 innings, including 37 fifties and two centuries.
It won’t be an exaggeration to say that AB de Villiers was among the most complete batters in world cricket, and he continued it in the IPL. He is the all-time second-leading run-scorer of RCB in the league.
Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis played in RCB for only three seasons, but his impact lasted more than several other players. Apart from captaining RCB, he also batted beautifully in all three seasons and was their second-leading run-scorer in the previous cycle.
He scored 1636 runs at an average of 38.04 and a strike rate of 146.99 in 45 innings for the Challengers. Faf also hit 15 fifties, the fourth-most for the franchise.
Glenn Maxwell
When Glenn Maxwell joined RCB in 2021, few expected him to be as impactful as he was. He has 1266 runs at an average of 28.77 and a strike rate of 159.24 in 50 innings, including 12 fifties.
Further, he also took 18 wickets at 29.05 runs apiece. He was one of the main reasons behind RCB’s immense success in the previous cycle, even though he couldn’t perform as expected in the last season.
Dale Steyn
Dale Steyn’s impact was more than just numbers. Record-wise, Steyn has 38 wickets at an average of 28.86, including the best of 3/18.
However, he took some of the most crucial wickets and is the leading wicket-taker among overseas bowlers for the franchise. Steyn’s economy rate of 7.32 shows he was frugal in most games and bowled tight areas in a high-scoring league, known for big scores.
