5 Fun Family Picnic Games That Will Keep Everyone Entertained OutdoorsFive Fun Games to Play at Your Next Family Picnic

A family picnic is a wonderful thing. There’s fresh air, good food and that one relative who insists that they make the best potato salad in the southern hemisphere. But once the sandwiches are gone and everyone’s had a sit down, the big question appears, what now? This is where a few simple games come in. You don’t need fancy equipment or Olympic level fitness, you just need a bit of space, a sense of humour and a willingness to laugh at Uncle Dave when he trips over absolutely nothing. Let’s take a look at 5 great games that will keep everyone entertained at your next family picnic.

  1. The classic sack race.

Nothing brings out competitive spirit like watching grown adults attempt to hop inside a potato sack. It’s chaos, ridicularity, and absolutely hilarious all wrapped up into one line. Everybody up, hand out the sacks and set a finish line across the grass on go. Participants have to hop their way to victory without falling over like a startled kangaroo. Kids love it, adults pretend they’re too cool for it, and then 5 minutes later they’re demanding a rematch.

  1. Cornhole Showdown.

Cornhole is one of the picnic games that’s simple to learn but surprisingly competitive.Players toss bean bags towards a raised board with a hole in it, aiming to land on the board or drop the bag straight through the hole. It’s the perfect mix of luck and skill, and it allows players to snack and play at the same time, which is arguably the true purpose of a picnic. If you want to improve the chances of winning, a few cornhole tips can help. Focus on steady throwing motions, aim slightly above the hole, and avoid launching the bean bag like you’re throwing a cricket ball at the stumps.

  1. Tug of war.

There are few games out there that create instant excitement like tug of war. All you need is a sturdy rope and two teams willing to pull with all their might. Divide the group evenly, mark a line in the grass, and let the battle begin. Within seconds, people are leaning backwards, shoes are digging into the ground, and someone’s yelling pull. It’s loud and energetic, and it’s a good way to burn off some dessert.

  1. A Frisbee challenge.

A frisbee is a picnic essential. It’s light, easy to carry, and perfect for quick games on the grass. You can keep things simple by tossing it back and forth or turning it into a challenge. See who can throw the longest distance and who can make the best trick catch, or who can land the frisbee closest to the chosen target. Just be careful near the food table. A flying frisbee and a tray of cupcakes very rarely ends well.

  1. The water balloon toss.

If the weather is warm, a water balloon toss is guaranteed. As a crowd favorite, pair up players and give every team a water balloon. Start close together and gently toss the balloon back and forth. After every successful catch, both players take a step backwards. Eventually the throws become longer, the tension builds, and someone ends up very, very wet.

Family picnics are all about relaxation and laughter. Packing in some games can really help to build some memories together.
