Cricket Australia (CA) has named Josh Inglis as the new captain for the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. Before he makes his debut in T20I captaincy, Josh will lead Australia in the 3rd ODI of the series as veteran players will leave to prepare for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith will not play the 3rd ODI at Perth Stadium. As their replacement, Spencer Johnson, Xavier Barlett, Lance Morris and Josh Phillippe have been added to the squad.
Josh Inglis will be the 30th ODI and 14th T20I captain for Australia. Josh was chosen for this role instead of Matt Short, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.
“Josh is an integral member of the ODI and T20I teams and a highly respected player on and off the field,”said chief selector George Bailey.
“He has led Australia A previously and will bring strong tactical nous and a positive approach to the role,” he added.
“Josh will receive great support from the likes of Matt Short and Adam Zampa, along with senior players including Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis,” he concluded.
