Nigel Clough’s Mansfield managed to shock Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United in a seven goal FA Cup Third Round thriller on Sunday.
The League One outfit beat Championship opposition 4-3 with Louis Reed scoring twice in the first half, either side of Gus Hamer’s equaliser, before the Stags extended their advantage early in the second half through Lucas Akins and Rhys Oates to go 4-1 up.
Sheffield United fought back late on when Patrick Bamford found the net and an own goal from Mansfield’s Nathan Moriah-Welsh made it 4-3, but the Stags held on to book themselves a place in the Fourth Round for the first time since 2008.
Wow!!! That was one of the best games I’ve seen live!
Matchday vlog will be out tomorrow, but for now here’s the moment Mansfield made it 4-1 and the celebrations that followed! #Stags #SUFC pic.twitter.com/mqPD9qF2Qk

Mansfield boss Nigel Clough told BBC Radio Nottingham:
“Another memorable victory and another great occasion for our incredible supporters.
“Not just to come to a top, top Championship team, but to score four goals as well – brilliant.
“Louis Reed – two brilliant strikes from the edge of the box – it’s about your first touch and make sure you hit the target and he did that twice.
“The quality they’re bringing on is Premier League quality. The likes of Patrick Bamford. The only disappointing thing is when you go 4-1 up, the second and third goals we concede are very poor from our point of view but it’s difficult to be too critical.
“One of the highlights for us was the four goals that we did score, all of them were brilliant goals.”
Chris Wilder said, per Yorkshire Post, having made 10 changes to his side: “It’s more than disappointing, I didn’t pick a team to get knocked out of the cup.
“I’ve said before the game we’ve got to be on it, the attitude had to be good. I picked a team to win a game of football.
“Good players if they play well individually and do their job in and out of possession, if you bring that altogether you give yourself an opportunity.
“The two centre-halves were dominated by the centre forward, the goals are ridiculous errors from individuals.
“Our two centre-halves were dominated and that wasn’t good enough from them.
“We said at half-time at 2-1 down, we just need to keep opening them up, then we go 3-1, 4-1 down – two goals that are shocking.
“We found ways to score three goals and that should have been enough. But if you don’t get the other bit right…”
Mansfield midfielder Louis Reed: “Bit of a bittersweet one [against former club], supporting the team as well, always nice to come back here but I think it’s the first two shots I’ve had all season and I managed to find the back of the net – delighted.
“I couldn’t believe my luck with the second one, I caught the first one better than the second but it’s taken a nick and gone in.
On Rhys Oates: “He’s a joy to have, especially when we’re backs to the wall he is the out ball at the top for you and he never gives anything up and half the time I don’t know how he gets on them but he does a great job for us.”
On injury problems: “It’s brought us together, we know what quality we’re missing and if anything it drives you on because you have to be at your best. Shows the strength in depth we have, the types of performances we have been putting on have been different but stuff we have needed to do and it’s a great team to be involved in at the minute.”
On who he’d like to face in round four: “Any of the Premier League sides would be nice and if not someone that we fancy beating and we can see how far we can get in this competition.”
Fans gave their reaction after Mansfield shock Sheffield United in a seven goal FA Cup Third Round thriller…
@JackWalters92: Well done lads! Absolutely shocking effort from some of our players. Your side wanted it more. Love Nigel Clough as well who deserves all the success. Hope you can go even further.
@B1adeIsHere: Congrats Mansfield. Wish we had Faxon in goal instead Davies but whatever.. we move onto Charlton.. good luck in the 4th round
@sufc: Credit to Mansfield, sold out the away end, played fantastic and deserved to win.
@Clarkey_No1: Superb @mansfieldtownfc, buzzing for mates I knew who went to Bramall Lane. Was nice to watch a team give absolutely everything for their manager. Rhys Oates ran his arse off and Louis Reed was class. Jamie McDonnell has a very big future too! #MTFC #Stags
@FowlerReece: Jokers, fuck off embarrassment to us all!!! Don’t bother showing up to Charlton if you can’t be fucking bothered to show up today… twats
@SU1889Blade: I never want to see McGuiness, Burrows and Chong in the team again. They wouldn’t get in that Mansfield team. Campbell and Ings need to get a grip too
@gavp77: Wilder has never been arsed about the FA Cup. Lost at home previously to Barnet. Last season to a woeful Cardiff at home. But even so, this is embarrassing. Fans still pay to watch it. I don’t like that he just surrenders #sufc #twitterblades
@SuggittKian: Seriously seriously embarrassing. Some awful individual performances
@m24pht: Worst second choice keeper in EFL, most of summer signings beyond embarrassing.
@_galpz: Dogshit. Big it up all you want in the presser Chris, don’t put a squad out to win then you won’t get the result. Davies, Campbell, Ings, Burrows, Blaster all really poor. Don’t deserve the cup.
@jonathonchapma2: The urgency at 4-3 summed up how shit we are today, 0 effort to level up
No matter who you support you appreciate limbs! Fair play Mansfield 👏👏👏#sufc #MTFC #stags #FACup pic.twitter.com/nle9YPv5fz
