Manchester United have appointed former midfielder Michael Carrick as their interim head coach until the end of the current campaign.

The Red Devils confirmed on Tuesday that the Englishman had agreed to take charge for the remainder of the season, with ex-Chelsea assistant manager Steve Holland and former England international Jonathan Woodgate joining his backroom staff.

Carrick’s first match in charge will be the Manchester derby against Manchester City on Saturday, before a trip to face Premier League leaders Arsenal.

In the meantime, it appears that one Man United loanee is attracting significant interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

As per CaughtOffside, forward Marcus Rashford has attracted interest from three huge European clubs.

The England international is currently on loan at Spanish champions Barcelona, and he has made an impressive start to life in Spain.

So far this term the 28-year-old has scored seven goals and registered 11 assists in 27 matches for Barcelona across all competitions, and the report suggests that the La Liga side are increasingly keen to sign the attacker permanently.

Fellow Spanish side Atletico Madrid and French champions Paris Saint-Germain are both also said to have identified the player as a potential transfer target, with the former seeing him as an ideal fit for manager Diego Simeone’s system.

Rashford himself is said to be keen on the idea of staying put at Camp Nou, and it appears that Barcelona are convinced by the player and could opt to trigger the option-to-buy clause that was included in his loan deal.

The Englishman has made more than 400 appearances for parent club Manchester United – scoring 138 goals – but fell out of favour when Ruben Amorim was appointed head coach in November 2024 and was sent on loan to Aston Villa for the second half of last term.

He has flourished since joining Barcelona, and it appears increasingly likely that he has already played his final game for the Red Devils.
