In a stunning performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Lakshya Sen triumphed over compatriot HS Prannoy, winning 21-12, 21-6 in just 39 minutes. This victory marks Sen’s debut in the Olympic quarter-finals, making him only the third Indian male player to achieve this feat, joining the ranks of Parupalli Kashyap and Kidambi Srikanth.
Match Highlights
The match, held at La Chapelle Arena’s Court 3, began with both players cautiously assessing each other’s strategies. However, it quickly became evident that Prannoy was struggling with fatigue from a previous three-game match. Despite a slow start, Sen established an early lead, closing the first game at 21-12.
In the second game, Sen showcased his dominance, leading 11-3 at the break. Prannoy’s fatigue became apparent as he failed to mount a significant challenge, resulting in a decisive 21-6 scoreline for Sen.
Looking Ahead: Quarter-Final Matchup
Lakshya Sen will face Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals. The two have met four times previously, with Sen holding a 1-3 record against the seasoned player. Their last encounter at the Singapore Open 2023 ended in a hard-fought defeat for Sen. However, with his current form, he is optimistic about his chances.
“I think having tough matches gives you confidence. I am now ready to go deep into the tournament. It will be a tricky match against Chou; I have to recover well and give my 100%,” Sen stated after his victory.
As the competition heats up, all eyes will be on Sen as he aims for Olympic glory in Paris.
