AEW Snagged Persephone After WWE Tried to Sign Her First

AEW just landed a big one. Persephone is now officially All Elite, but that signature didn’t come easy. WWE had been circling the 24-year-old rising star since last summer, according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter—and it all started with her performance at Forbidden Door in London.

Persephone, repping CMLL, shared the ring with Mercedes Moné, Bozilla, and Alex Windsor in a TBS Championship four-way match. That performance apparently set off alarm bells in WWE’s scouting department.

“WWE was very interested in her since the London match,” Meltzer reported.

Born in El Paso, Texas, Persephone skyrocketed through the ranks of CMLL, building a solid resume of standout matches and tournament victories. She’s also married to fellow luchador Villano III Jr., and has been representing her brand across promotions.

Her biggest moment may have come on October 17, 2025, in a CMLL World Title match against Mercedes Moné. Meltzer didn’t hold back on the praise.

*“She turned the corner in October, when she had a legit ***1/4 match in challenging Moné for the CMLL world title on 10/17 which drew 9,500 fans, the largest crowd for an all-women’s pro wrestling show anywhere in the world in many years.”

A week later, she won the CMLL Women’s Grand Prix, pinning Thekla in the finals on October 24. Unfortunately, she’s been sidelined in recent weeks with an injury, but the momentum isn’t going anywhere—especially now that AEW is officially her home.

AEW’s women’s division just got a serious upgrade, and with WWE lurking in the shadows, you have to wonder if more battles over breakout talent are on the horizon.

What do you think about AEW signing Persephone? Should WWE have pulled the trigger sooner? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
