An example given was a player’s manager telling a franchise that the player could be available if offered more money. This led franchises to believe that some players and their managers might be trying to exploit the system, making it necessary for the IPL to implement stricter rules.
The franchises have suggested that the IPL should enforce checks to prevent this from happening. They are okay with new or lesser-known overseas players registering for mini-auctions but believe that prominent players should register for mega-auctions. This approach aims to ensure that major players commit to the auction process and reduce disruptions for the teams.
If a top player goes unsold in the mega auction, they could still enter the mini-auction for the following season. This system would help maintain fairness and stability, preventing last-minute changes that negatively impact team planning and performance.
Amidst all the concerns, agreements, and disagreements, the franchises had a long meeting with the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. After the meeting, the BCCI Secretary said the decision would be made in a week or so. Now everyone is looking forward to the decision.
