In a compelling display of cricket at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the Dindigul Dragons secured their spot in the Tamil Nadu Premier League final by defeating the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans by nine wickets in Qualifier 2. The Dragons, led by a masterful all-round performance, chased down a modest target of 109 with 55 balls to spare, showcasing their dominance and intent to clinch the title.

Opting to field first after winning the toss, the Dragons’ bowlers immediately justified the decision. P Vignesh was the standout performer, dismantling the Tamizhans’ batting lineup with figures of 3/8 from his four overs. His disciplined bowling was pivotal in restricting the opposition to a meager 108 in 19.4 overs. Vignesh was well-supported by Varun Chakravarthy and Suboth Bhati (2 wickets each), who chipped in with crucial wickets, ensuring that the Tamizhans never found any momentum.

The Tamizhans’ innings was marked by a series of early collapses. Despite a promising start by Amit Sathvik, who scored 16 off 19 balls, the middle and lower order failed to capitalize. Maan Bafna offered some resistance with a brisk 26 off 19 balls, but it was too little too late. The Dragons’ bowlers, particularly Vignesh, Varun, and Bhati, maintained a tight grip throughout, ensuring that the Tamizhans struggled to build any substantial partnerships.

Chasing a target of 109, the Dragons’ batting response was swift and assertive. Vimal Khumar set the tone with a solid 28 off 27 balls, but it was captain Ravichandran Ashwin who stole the show. Ashwin blazed his way to an unbeaten 69 off just 30 balls, studded with 11 fours and 3 sixes, demonstrating his prowess and experience. His aggressive innings ensured that the Dragons crossed the finish line with ease, reaching 112/1 in just 10.5 overs.
