Callum Walsh vs. Carlos Ocampo fight recap

Callum Walsh (16-0, 11 KOs) got the unanimous decision win over Carlos Ocampo (38-4, 26 KOs) in a lacklustre performance.

Scores were 98-90 (x2) and 97-91. Walsh remains unbeaten with the victory in addition to having a successful debut at middleweight. The bout headlined the first ever Zuffa Boxing event.

Although Walsh connected with clean, hard punches soon after the first bell rang, much of the opening round saw both men standing at range and posturing at each other. This continued into the subsequent rounds. Whenever Walsh let his hands go, he generally landed his power shots but did so without much set up. Ocampo struggled to close the distance and get his own offence going.

An unexpected development occured in the sixth when Walsh was ruled knocked down. Ocampo landed a left hook to the body that caused the Irishman’s left glove to touch the canvas. The local commission later reviewed the call as the fight continued and upheld the decision.

Despite that occurrence in round six, Walsh had little trouble with his opponent. Ocampo struggled to land much of significance. He was also deducted a point in the ninth for a low blow. While Walsh was not particularly active either, he still had greater success in landing his shots. He ultimately got the decision win without much difficulty.
