Michael Zheng won the first set vs Corentin Moutet yesterday but then ran out of gas and had to retire down 02 in the fourth set. Zheng had just won four of the biggest matches of his life, three in qualies and the five setter vs Korda in his first Grand Slam main draw appearance. It is going to be a very interesting year for Zheng who will likely forgo his Columbia college career senior season and concentrate on ATP tournaments.

Omni-present coach Davide Sanguinetti is not involved with any player at the AO this year which is unusual because he’s one of the most sought after coaches and he’s always employed by some player. Right now Sanguinetti is coaching Mark Lajal who is playing the Oeiras Challenger in Portugal. Lajal is locked in a 2R battle 55 with Mikhail Kukushkin.

Raducanu lost yesterday to Potapova 67 26 but protected herself by alerting the media before the duel that she had a foot issue which impacted her training so the loss doesn’t really matter because she was not at full strength again. The British media will never challenge Raducanu on her injury statements and the same charade continues.
