The spotlight at the Mumias Complex will firmly be on the BingwaFest Western Region Rugby 10s finals with Masinde Muliro University set to lock horns with Sigalagala Polytechnic in a thrilling showdown scheduled for 11:30 AM.
In the women’s category, Mwira Rugby 27-0 over Blackrock Rugby as Shamberere Polytechnic lost 20-7 to Shieywe Rugby.
Masinde Muliro University delivered a commanding performance to dismantle Mbale Rugby 36–0 in the Main Cup quarter-final. Job Baraka opened the scoring with a well-taken try converted by Chesikor Travis.
Moses Bulemi added another try with Travis again successful from the tee to stretch the lead to 14–0. Playmaker Joshua Sudi stole the show with a brilliant hat-trick, while Fidel Wafula added another try despite a missed conversion. Travis chipped in with an extra conversion to seal a dominant victory and secure MMUST’s semi-final berth.
Sigalagala Polytechnic booked their semi-final ticket after a solid 15–0 win over Andaliza Community. Taifa Prince, Nickson Shevei, and Navishwa Felix each crossed the whitewash, though no conversions were added. A disciplined defensive display ensured Sigalagala kept a clean sheet to advance.
In the women’s quarter-final, Shamberere Polytechnic produced a composed display to defeat MMUST Women 17–0. Tries from Mitchell Tamara, Martha Obulinji, and Brenda Musonga put the game beyond reach, with Centrine Nambwira adding a successful conversion.
Kibabii University secured their place in the men’s semi-finals after a convincing 27–7 victory over BorderRucks. Tries from Ian Adanje, Joshua Mukana, and Peter Kibui, coupled with a brace from William Okondo, powered the varsity side ahead as Mekubo Brian added one conversion. BorderRucks responded through Hillary Isaack with Anselm Nhiro converting, but Kibabii maintained control until full time.
Webuye Rugby claimed a narrow 7–5 win over Kaimosi Polytechnic in a tightly contested encounter to seal the final semi-final slot in the men’s category.
Blackrock Rugby were ruthless in their women’s quarter-final clash against Lugulu Development, cruising to a commanding 43–10 victory and underlining their title ambitions heading into the semi-finals.
