Australian Open 2026, quarter-final
The 2026 Australian Open is heating up, and tomorrow’s quarter-final clash between World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and home favorite Alex de Minaur is one not to miss! Both men are chasing history: Alcaraz is looking for his first-ever Australian Open semi-final to keep his Career Grand Slam bid alive, while “The Demon” is desperate to break into the final four in front of the Melbourne crowd.
Match Details
- Round: Quarter-finals
- Date: Tuesday, January 27, 2026
- Time: Night Session (Prime Time)
- Venue: Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park
H2H – 5–0 Alcaraz
The statistics lean heavily toward the Spaniard. Alcaraz has won all five of their previous professional encounters. Most recently, they met at the 2025 ATP Finals in Turin, where Alcaraz took the win in straight sets. However, de Minaur has pushed him to three sets in the past (notably in Rotterdam 2025), proving he can hang with the World No. 1’s pace.
Form Guide
Carlos Alcaraz (1st Seed)
- Performance: He hasn’t dropped a single set all tournament (12–0).
- Last Match: Defeated 19th seed Tommy Paul 7-6, 6-4, 7-5.
- Style: Total aggression. His forehand is currently clocking elite speeds, and his variety, specifically those trademark drop shots, are working just fine.
Alex de Minaur (6th Seed)
- Performance: Playing some of the best tennis of his career.
- Last Match: Demolished 10th seed Alex Bublik 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 in just over 90 minutes.
- Style: Speed and grit. De Minaur’s returning has been phenomenal this week, and he’ll need to use his world-class fast movement to survive Alcaraz’s heavy hitting.
Predictions for Alcaraz vs De Minaur
Alcaraz has fallen at this stage in Melbourne for the past two years but this time he will get past it. De Minaur is in superb form and believes he can cause an upset here bit I think the Spaniard just has too many weapons and de Minaur will need to take risks. He cannot just grind out a win today.
The Aussie does usually have problems against the top ranked players, something the H2H with Alcaraz confirms as well. I can see De Minaur take one set in this quarter-final but not more.
Prediction: Alcaraz to win in 4 sets.
