This month starts the domestic girls’ and women’s lacrosse seasons on several levels.
Florida teams will be playing meaningful games soon; the first play date is Feb. 9, and a top game between Vero Beach (Fla.) and Oviedo (Fla.) will be an appropriate kickoff on that day.
On the collegiate level, the madness began last Friday with three Division II games, but really takes off with 22 games at the Division I level. The opening weekend also includes games involving national championship contenders; Friday sees Northwestern traveling to Boston College, a revisitation of the rousing 2024 national championship game. In addition, Maryland will be playing at Syracuse, a replay of the 2014 title game. Saturday, North Carolina, your defending national champion, will take on James Madison, the 2018 titlists.
In the last week of February, the four teams in the Maybelline Women’s Lacrosse League will gather together for their preseason schedule of Olympic Sixes, which will then vault them into their inaugural full-field campaign this summer.
We’ll have previews of these attractive matchups this month, as well as our back-of-the-envelope preseason Top 10.
Should be a fantastic month of lacrosse.
Weather, of course, permitting.
