What could have been if Chelsea signed this guy, it was so close

Let’s travel back through time for a moment, to a place that is somehow now almost a decade ago. How did that happen? Time needs to slow down.

The year was 2017, Sergio Aguero was about to join Chelsea to replace Diego Costa and team up with Eden Hazard under Antonio Conte. Just imagine…

The Argentine striker said this week:

“In 2017, I was on the verge of going to Chelsea and then Manchester City cancelled the deal in the last minute. Conte wanted me with Hazard. Diego Costa was leaving.”

Aguero, now 37, had a superb footballing career, getting over 100 caps and 41 goals for Argentina, and playing almost 400 games for Manchester City scoring 260 goals along the way. What a striker, what a player, and what a career. He was SO close to getting some of those 400 appearances and 260 goals for Chelsea instead!

A top SPTC Source told me this week that Aguero to Chelsea was 99.9% DONE. Wow. It was literally THAT close. The striker was at Cobham meeting the players and coaches and everything, he was about to sign. But then BAM, City decided to cancel the deal. What a damn shame that was.

I always say we have still not replaced Diego Costa, but that would have been a suitable replacement. To this day, we still haven’t replaced Costa with a true and proper 9.

But right now, all I can think of is what could have been.
