There’s a reason Ben Griffin has quietly earned the reputation as “the people’s champ.”
The guy had three wins last year, a Ryder Cup appearance, a top-10 world ranking and a $40 golf ball in play the entire time. So it’s hard to argue that a Maxfli ball isn’t good enough for your game.
This week, Griffin’s golf ball situation will change.
Griffin is putting a new Maxfli ball in play
Very little has been officially shared about the new Maxfli Tour X LS. What we do know is that it’s a subtle evolution rather than a wholesale change.
Early indications point to a slightly lower launch profile, reduced spin and a marginally softer feel compared to the standard Tour X. For a player who already produces plenty of speed and height, those tweaks make sense.
In firm or windy conditions like you often see at TPC Scottsdale this could be the perfect time to make the switch.
The rest of the bag
Griffin continuing as a Maxfli brand ambassador means he’ll have the Maxfli logo on his hat and golf bag but his golf ball partnership doesn’t dictate the rest of his setup.
As of early this season, Griffin’s setup looked like this:
- Driver: PING G430 Max 10K (9°) – UST Mamiya Lin-Q Proto V1 7 TX
- Fairway Wood: TaylorMade Qi35 (15°) – UST Mamiya Lin-Q Proto V1 8 TX
- Irons: Mizuno JPX 923 (3) / Mizuno Pro S-3 (4–PW) – True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
- Wedges: Mizuno Pro T-1 (50°, 56°-10) / TaylorMade MG4 (60°-SB) – True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
- Putter: TaylorMade Spider Tour X
The brand hasn’t changed. The belief didn’t either. The data will tell us the rest.
