Just before the show goes live, it has revealed that Cody Rhodes is scheduled to open tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown from the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
According to Bodyslam.net’s Cory Hays, the 2026 Royal Rumble runner-up will kick off the blue brand broadcast, though the nature of his appearance hasn’t been confirmed. As of now, it’s expected to be an in-ring segment.
Rhodes has been heavily featured on both WWE brands since the Rumble and is still without a confirmed opponent for WrestleMania 42. With Liv Morgan also scheduled to appear on tonight’s show—and several Elimination Chamber qualifiers happening—many fans are speculating that Cody may use this moment to send a message about his own WrestleMania plans.
This appearance comes just ahead of the main event triple threat Elimination Chamber qualifier featuring Aleister Black vs. Solo Sikoa vs. Randy Orton, plus a WWE Women’s Tag Team Title match and the women’s qualifier match with Lash Legend, Tiffany Stratton, and Chelsea Green. But now, the American Nightmare will set the tone.
