Nick Ball vs. Brandon Figueroa fight recap

Brandon Figueroa (27-2-1, 19 KOs) won in dramatic fashion with a twelfth round technical knockout against Nick Ball (23-1-1, 13 KOs).

The official time of stoppage was 0:32. Figueroa is now the WBA featherweight world champion with the victory. This will be his second title reign at 126 lbs, having previously held the WBC belt.

Both men had an active opening round. Ball caught the eye with the uppercuts he landed against his taller opponent. The bout continued to be a physical affair as it progressed with the pair throwing a high number of punches at close range.

There was a fair amount of clinching as both men sought to fight on the inside. Ball consistently landed the jab and was always willing to trade with his opponent. Figueroa switched stances frequently and pressed forward all fight long. It was a close fight going into round 12, which is where things took a turn for the dramatic.

Just seconds into the twelfth, Figueroa landed a left hook to the head that sent Ball to the canvas. The Liverpudlian slowly got up and was clearly still dazed, but referee Steve Gray allowed the bout to resume. A barrage of punches immediately after the resumption sent Ball through the ropes and the fight was waved off immediately, making Figueroa the new WBA featherweight world champion.
