BCB Chief Requests Pakistan to End Boycott for T20 World Cup Clash vs India

Aminul Islam on Monday said he had requested Pakistan to end its boycott of the T20 World Cup match against India which is scheduled to take place on February 15 in Colombo. The meeting between Islam and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi occurred in Lahore.

Pakistan decided to boycott the February 15 clash because they wanted to support Bangladesh who had been replaced by Scotland after their decision to refuse travel to India based on security concerns.

Islam expressed his feelings about Pakistan’s support for Bangladesh during this time when he said Pakistan exceeds all expectations through their current assistance efforts. The bond of brotherhood between us will continue to endure according to Islam’s official announcement.

I want Pakistan to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup game on 15 February against India because it will benefit the entire cricket eco system after my brief visit to Pakistan yesterday and our upcoming meeting results.

Islam arrived in Pakistan on Sunday for discussions which included a virtual meeting between the International Cricket Council and the Pakistan Cricket Board. The two parties worked together to find a solution to their current deadlock.

PCB chief Naqvi on Monday said that Pakistan would make a final decision about their match against India within 24 hours because he had been negotiating with the ICC while also meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Aminul Islam.

Naqvi had contacted Islam according to people who know about the talks and he asked Islam to submit a formal request to Pakistan.

The source who provided information about the talks reported that Naqvi contacted Islam to request that he submit an official appeal to Pakistan. The source who provided information about the situation said that Naqvi asked Bulbul to issue an official appeal to Pakistan because he wanted Pakistan to compete in the match against India but he needed to find a dignified way to escape his current situation. The release of Mustafizur Rahman from the KKR squad by BCCI directives caused Bangladesh to withdraw from the competition. The BCB statement expressed its gratitude to Pakistan Cricket Board the International Cricket Council and all participants for their assistance in addressing recent issues. The BCB states its deep appreciation for PCB Chairman Mohsin Raza Naqvi and his Board and all cricket fans from Pakistan. The PCB organization has shown outstanding sportsmanship and unity throughout this time period.
