Aumont has spent parts of four seasons in the big leagues, dating back to 2012 through 2015. The right-hander appeared in 46 games for the Philadelphia Phillies during that span, pitching to a 6.80 ERA across 43 2/3 innings.
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed Phillippe Aumont to a minor league contract. The pitcher has 627 strikeouts in 567.2 innings pitched throughout his minor league career.
For most of his career, the Canadian was a prominent figure in the minor leagues, amassing 567 2/3 innings from 2008 to 2018, and finished his career pitching for the Ottawa Champions in Independent Ball. As a minor league, Aumont owns a 4.38 ERA and a 9.9 K/9 while appearing in over 297 games (47 starts).
The right-hander signed a MiLB deal with Toronto for the 2020 season, but did not pitch due to the cancellation of minor league baseball due to the COVID pandemic. The veteran hurler would retire later that summer and turn to farming produce back in Quebec.
Aumont has also been a prominent figure on the international stage for Team Canada over the years.
He has pitched for Canada at the 2009, 2013, and 2023 World Baseball Classic tournaments, and is listed on the 2026 roster as well. Aumont has also donned the Maple Leaf for the 2015 Pan American Games, 2015 WBSC Premier12 Tournament, 2019 Pan American Games, and the 2019 WBSC Premier12 tournament.
A former first-round pick of the Seattle Mariners back in 2007, Aumont was the first Quebec-born player to be drafted in the first round.
Now 37 years old, he is looking to make his way back to the big leagues with the home nation organization while also getting ramped up to represent Canada for what could be his final tournament.
