Brody King is set to challenge MJF for the AEW World Championship this weekend. However, he was nowhere to be found on this week’s episode of Dynamite.
King was kept off this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which took place at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. According to a report from F4WOnline.com’s Dave Meltzer, Warner Bros Discovery decided to pull King from the show, not Tony Khan or AEW.
The decision to ban Brody King from this week’s show was a direct response to the ‘F*ck ICE’ chants heard on the February 4 episode of Dynamite. The anti-ICE chants were so popular that the topic made national headlines last week.
WBD reportedly does not want to upset Donald Trump
“The deal is that they didn’t want the fans in the arena to be chanting that,” Meltzer said (via Wrestling Observer Radio). “If Brody came out, there was that risk [the chants would start up again this week.]”
Meltzer noted that, in effect, fans will now be influenced to chant anti-ICE remarks even more. He also stated that if it wasn’t for potentially upsetting U.S. President Donald Trump by condoning the chants, no one would really care.
“This is, again, not a Tony call. This is from above. You know what it is; nobody wants to get on Trump’s bad side,” Meltzer added. “It’s just a chant. But, unfortunately, they’ve got a company they’re trying to sell and get regulatory approval from a guy who will take that stuff personally.”
King’s absence wasn’t the only ICE-related concern on Wednesday night. One fan said he was kicked out of the arena for wearing an abolish ICE shirt.
