Oftentimes, we believe that in order to start something in life, we must already be pretty good at it or have all the right tools to begin whatever creation or venture we have in mind. This belief is also why many of us never start anything or try anything different in our lives. We fear not being good in the beginning or never being able to improve over time, and that paralyzes us from ever trying… even if we really love it. If this has happened to you, or if it’s currently happening to you, don’t worry! It truly happens to most people. It is important for us to understand why we are afraid to start something new in the first place.
I remember reading a book about the Savannah Bananas, and one thing that really stood out to me was this: they knew they didn’t have it all figured out, yet they still decided to learn as they went. This is something I have personally applied to my life, and I feel it is something that everyone should.
I started posting a lot on social media around January 2022. I wanted to start creating content around one of my passions in life: the gym. I have always been into content creation, and once I saw there was a lane to create gym-related content and become a creator, I decided to take the leap. I bring this up because, at the beginning, my content wasn’t the best, and I really wasn’t sure what I was doing. I just knew that in order to be successful, you have to remain consistent and learn as you go.
Fast-forward to the present, and I have now combined two of my passions into the content I create: the gym and WWE. I decided not to wait until I learned absolutely everything about content creation. Instead, I learned as I went and encountered some trial and error along the way.
If I had waited for the “perfect time,” I might never have started. There is no perfect time. There is a right time, though, and that right time is now. This is going to happen with everything you try that is new to you. Don’t be afraid to fail early in order to succeed later. Try those new things, and don’t let the fear of being bad in the beginning keep you from even starting at all. Fail forward, and learn as you go.
