A longtime UFC analyst and coach feels that Conor McGregor will finally make his return at the UFC White House event.
McGregor hasn’t seen action inside the Octagon since 2021 when he broke his leg in a trilogy fight against the now retired Dustin Poirier. Returns have been teased for McGregor. The “Notorious” one was even booked for a UFC 303 showdown with Michael Chandler, but it ultimately never materialized.
MMAJunkie.com caught up with Din Thomas, who shared why he thinks McGregor’s comeback will actually take place at UFC’s upcoming historic event.
“I think if the opportunity arises for them to make a deal with Conor, I think they make it happen,” Thomas said. “Fighting at the White House is going to be a once in a lifetime thing, most likely. I can’t imagine them doing this again or it becoming a regular thing. Again, same reason with Jon Jones. If you have the opportunity to fight at the White House, you do it. You take advantage of that, and I think if the opportunity does arise, I’m leaning toward they make it happen with Conor one way or another.”
Thomas then predicted that McGregor will not be competing in the 155-pound division. Despite this, the former fighter believes McGregor will always be viewed as a true lightweight by fans. Thomas also added, “But, him fighting at the White House, if I had to put money on it, I’d say they make it happen.”
A slew of names have called for a dance with McGregor on the UFC White House card. The most recent star to put his name in the hat is Mauricio Ruffy, who is fresh off a TKO finish over Rafael Fiziev at UFC 325.
