YouTuber Ellis Platten rallies fans and his followers to fill a non league ground and break a club’s record attendance.
Platten, whose AwayDays channel with 580,000 subscribers, is calling on his audience, and anyone else to attend Witham Town v Gorleston on Saturday, March 7th.
The aim for the game is to try and do something good for a local non league side, but to also give an amazing fan a game he’ll always remember too.
The Isthmian North League fixture takes place at the Simarco Stadium, Witham, CM8 1UN. Get yourself there if you can and make it a memorable experience.
His tweet, on the 10th of February, asking ‘If we did an AwayDay where we tried to take as many fans as possible to a team that get none…’, went on to get hundreds of replies, and a million views.
Fans from across the UK and even abroad jumped in, promising big crowds that could deliver vital gate receipts and exposure to grassroots football scraping by on tiny attendances.
I also just want to preface this with us having had literally 200+ clubs reach out.
If this is a success we’ll do it again for other clubs 100%

Ellis said in his latest YouTube video” “We need your help. On March the 7th, we’re going to try and do something absolutely amazing. We need as many Away Days viewers as possible from anywhere in the world because we’re going to try and pack out the stadium of a non-league team in England with Away Days viewers.
“The team in question? Witham Town FC. A team we visited before on this channel due to the fact they have one extremely loyal fan who is a friend of the channel and I cannot wait to go back. I also tried to do this exact video in 2018.
7 years ago – “Hello guys, just a quick video to say that tomorrow I’m going to be at Witham Town FC for their game against Hornchurch I believe. I want to get as many of you down there tomorrow if you can. Get down to Witham Town tomorrow and join me and try and get an atmosphere of James. Everyone knows who James is.”
“No one turned up. Today, things are different. We have a huge loyal audience and I honestly think we can do something really special and raise a lot of money for a non-league team that need it.
“Will 100 people turn up? Will a thousand people turn up? I don’t know but I’m excited either way. Here’s what I need from you.
“In the description is a link to tickets. All you have to do is buy a ticket and turn up on the day. It is that simple.
“On the day we’re going to be meeting at Witham Skatepark between 12.30 and 1pm. Location is on your screen there.
“No pyro, no idiots. Please don’t ruin it. I know obviously like it’s exciting and the initial thought is oh we can let off some pyro and it’d be amazing.
“If people let off pyro or do anything stupid like that, it reflects badly on us and also the club will be fine. Please don’t do that.
“If you go to buy a ticket and there’s tickets available, great. Buy one, turn up. It’ll be an amazing day.
“However, on the off chance we somehow sell out of all tickets, please don’t turn up on the day. Only turn up on the day if you have a ticket to the game. We don’t want to cause a headache for a team that just frankly don’t need a headache.
“There’s also a link in this video’s description to a discord channel for this if you want to join that. We’re going to put everything in there.
“Any information is amazing. Their record attendance by the way is 898. Could we beat it? Finally, I know we have a lot of international viewers that maybe want to buy a ticket just to support the cause and like give some money to the club.
“By all means, if in a week or so’s time there’s still tickets available, do that. It would be great to give some money towards the club anyway.
“However, just for now when this is first announced, please only buy a ticket if you can come to the game. Let’s do this.”
Here’s the social media reaction as YouTuber Ellis Platten rallies fans to fill the non league ground and break the club’s record attendance…
@connor_202_: got my ticket lad
@TomFUT7: See you there 🫡
@TC42_SZN: I shall be there!
@shanejones: Interested. You could do a few of these in different corners of the UK and bring local fans from those areas who follow AwayDays. I’m up in the North West, a game in the south of England might be a bit of a stretch for me. Could make a good series!
@GabrielPurves: PLEASE do Tooting & Mitcham for this challenge @ellis_platten they have a capacity of 3,500 in the 9th tier and get under 230 on average, they would be absolutely perfect for this AND they’re in London so loads of people could make it and the tickets are £8 I’ll bring 20 flags
@thedreamis20521: Do a non league club not football league. Imagine turning up at places like Steeton, Sillsden or Eccleshill United (now playing in Keighley) and how much of game changer for season it would be.
@fcislocheng: That sounds brilliant. Reminiscent of the old Fans United days. A club with an oversized ground just crying out to be packed out is the one to go for. Not Milton Keynes though obviously. Worcester City have a 10k capacity ground and get average crowds of about 1000.
@OshJones25: @tnsfc would be perfect for this but since the aim is to make a small non league side a ton of money, probably not the best idea to pack out the only professional team in the entire league and one that’s bankrolled by a millionaire
@TheKarlRobinson: Depending on where it is sounds like it could be a good laugh
@liamcato3: I’d do it in a heartbeat
@meister487: Well up for that.
@JackTheJobber: I’ve already been to Milton Keynes anyway
@ConnorC74795949: Id love to it would be class
@DJMercenary_UK: Hell yea I’d be well on this! Make it happen for Ellis!
@HcafcArmy: Count me in sir
@Dansmeeeth: Depends on location but 100% 🫡
The Pigs vs the police does write itself in fairness…

Right, @ellis_platten we’ve got a top flight team in Austria who statistically average ONE away fan…
Been meaning to suggest this idea for a while 😂
