Liverpool face fellow Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday night.
The Reds currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and look unlikely to defend their top flight crown, so the FA Cup may present Arne Slot’s side with a good opportunity to lift a trophy this season.
The Seagulls arrive at Anfield in poor form, having won just once in their last 13 league games.
Ahead of the game, it has emerged that Liverpool are seemingly in pole position to land an England star this summer.
According to CaughtOffside, the Merseyside outfit are ahead of both Arsenal and Manchester City in the race to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
The Englishman joined the Magpies from Everton back in 2023 and has since made 140 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 32 goals and providing 28 assists.
It is claimed that the England international’s impressive form for the North East giants has attracted interest from both Arsenal and City, however it is the reigning Premier League champions who are currently leading the race to sign the player.

Gordon remains a key player for Eddie Howe’s side, however, and the report claims that Newcastle could therefore demand a fee as high as £95 million to let the winger leave St. James’ Park.
The report cites the fact that Gordon’s family are Liverpool supporters as one reason why the Reds are in pole position to land the attacker, despite him previously playing for their bitter rivals, Everton.
Newcastle lost Alexander Isak last summer, however, and the Magpies will be reluctant to allow key players, including Gordon and Sandro Tonali, to depart the club during the upcoming summer window.
