Germany were crowned SVNS 2 champions after Kenya 7s first loss of the tournament to the USA proved costly, condemning Shujaa to a third-place finish at Nyayo Stadium.
A 21–5 defeat to the USA ended Kenya’s remarkable 27-match winning streak that stretched back to 2021. Germany finished top of the standings with 13 points, while the USA and Kenya both ended on 12 points after five matches.
Shujaa started brightly but were met by a solid American defence. It was the USA who struck first, with Lucas Lacamp kicking through the defensive line and racing clear to score the opener. The Americans held on to their slim advantage to lead at the break.
Early in the second half, the USA won a penalty and, from the ensuing lineout, powered their way over through Aaron Cummings to stretch the lead to 14–0. Adam Channel then sealed the win before George Ooro raced from inside his own 22 to score a late consolation try for Kenya.
Uruguay bounce back
Uruguay returned to winning ways with a dominant 43–12 victory over Canada. Ignacio Rodriguez (two tries), Dante Soto, Juan Manuel Tafernaberry, Alfonso Vidal, Mauricio Maly and Joaquin Cat were all on the scoresheet as Canada remained winless.
EDITOR’S PICKS:
Germany edged Belgium 12–5 in a tight encounter. Niklas Koch opened the scoring to give Germany a 5–0 lead before Benjamin Ruddick replied for Belgium. Jakob Dipper then crossed for the decisive try to secure the win for the Germans.
Argentina crowned
Argentina were confirmed as SVNS 2 Nairobi women’s champions despite suffering a dramatic 17–12 golden-time loss to South Africa in the final round.
The Argentines had been unbeaten heading into the match, while South Africa had lost just once in the tournament. Marianela Escalante scored in the second minute, but South Africa responded through Maria Tshiremba to level the scores at 7–7.
In the second half, Sofia Gonzalez sold a dummy and raced clear to restore Argentina’s lead at 12–7. South Africa once again drew level through Patience Mokone, sending the contest into golden time.
In extra time, South Africa ripped the ball loose and quickly shifted it wide for Tshiremba to race clear and score her second try, sealing the win and second place on the standings.
Spain beat Kenya Lionesses
Kenya Lionesses finished fifth after suffering a third consecutive defeat, going down 14–5 to Spain. Freshia Oduor struck after just two minutes, but Spain replied through Denisse Gortazar before the break. Abril Camacho Ruiz then crossed in the second half to secure the win.
China wrapped up their campaign with a 24–5 victory over Brazil, with tries from Sun Yue, Chen Can, and a brace from Qian Xin.
