Where Will the Remaining IPL 2025 Matches Be Held?
With the IPL 2025 currently on suspension due to high border India-Pakistan tensions, the BCCI is preparing to resume the tournament later in May, pending government approval. As per reports from ESPNcricinfo, three cities Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad have been shortlisted to host the remaining 16 matches, including four crucial playoff fixtures. Originally, Eden Gardens in Kolkata was scheduled to host Qualifier 2 and the final, but that might now be changed depending on logistical and security considerations.
Franchise representatives were reportedly briefed informally by the BCCI regarding the possible shift in venues. While no formal schedule has been announced, the board is aiming for a swift decision to restart the league. If the IPL is not approved by the Indian government in the coming weeks, the BCCI may consider staging the rest of the season later this year. The board has so far completed 57 matches, with the 58th match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals being interrupted midway.
What About the Availability of Overseas Players?
One of the biggest challenges facing the IPL’s resumption is the uncertain availability of international players. Several key overseas cricketers have already begun returning home, and their return in time for a possible May restart is not guaranteed.
This issue is especially crucial given the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final between Australia and South Africa, scheduled from June 11 to 15 at Lord’s. Many players from these two countries are vital to their IPL teams and may not be available for the concluding stages if the league restarts late in May. The BCCI now faces a race against time to resolve these issues with the IPL on line.
