Becky Lynch might be a WrestleMania main eventer and one of WWE’s biggest stars, but one of the most surprising parts of her journey has nothing to do with championships. It involves working at a bar in Ireland when she was just 14 years old.
During a GQ Couples Quiz appearance with Seth Rollins, Becky asked him about her first job ever. Rollins initially guessed she worked at a health food store, which is something he remembered from her past. Becky explained that the answer was a bit tricky because technically she had been earning money even earlier, washing cars in her neighborhood when she was around eight years old. Rollins immediately pushed back, saying that didn’t count as a real job, even though Becky insisted they were paid for it.
That’s when Becky revealed what she considers her first real job. She said she worked in a little bar at 14 years old. Rollins was visibly shocked and asked if she was actually allowed to work in a bar at that age. Becky’s explanation was simple — it was Ireland.
“Jesus! You’re like serving people beer and stuff at 14?, Rollins asked”
Rollins reacted with disbelief, asking if she was really serving people beer at 14. Becky clarified that the bar was called The Abbey Tavern and described it as a place where American tourists would come to watch Irish dancing shows. She explained that she would serve them traditional Irish food and beer as part of the experience.
“Yeah, it was called the Abbey Tavern. And there would be a bunch of American tourists would come in and there was like an Irish dancing show and we would serve them like Irish food and beer, obviously,” Becky explained.
Rollins repeated that it was insane for a 14-year-old to be working in that environment. Becky quickly made it clear that she wasn’t drinking herself and was simply doing her job. Rollins jokingly questioned her again, but she confirmed she wasn’t breaking any rules.
The exchange showed a major cultural difference between Ireland and the United States, where working in a bar at 14 would be unheard of. From washing cars as a kid to serving tourists at The Abbey Tavern and eventually headlining WrestleMania, Becky’s path to superstardom didn’t start inside a wrestling ring — it started with real-world jobs and responsibility at a young age.
