MJF Defends Booker T After 2025 Worst Announcer Award Backlash

MJF has entered the conversation — and he’s not holding back.

After Booker T was voted 2025 Worst Television Announcer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Year-End Awards, fans flooded social media with strong reactions. The WWE Hall of Famer and current NXT commentator received 516 votes in the category, finishing well ahead of Pat McAfee, Michael Cole, Vic Joseph, and Tony Schiavone.

But while fans were already debating the result, it was AEW star MJF who gave the controversy a whole new layer. On February 16, 2026, MJF took to Twitter and made it clear exactly where he stands on Booker T.

“@BookerT5x in a lot of ways is a blueprint to me. A completely homegrown top guy with massive drawing power on Warner TV without having to have worked for McMahon.”

That statement alone raised eyebrows. MJF, one of AEW’s biggest names, openly crediting Booker T as a “blueprint” is not something you see every day — especially given Booker’s legacy across WCW and WWE. MJF didn’t stop there, before he turned up the intensity.

“If you dislike what he does in the booth, that’s fine. But You guys talk crazy on legends. Show some respect, he’s earned it.”

The tweet immediately shifted the tone of the conversation. While some fans criticized Booker’s commentary style on NXT, many others defended him, pointing to his passion, energy, and role in helping elevate younger talent.

Booker T is now set to address the controversy directly on February 17, 2026 at 1 PM on his Hall of Fame podcast. Ringside News will be providing updates from the episode as they happen.

MJF rarely steps into debates like this without purpose. When he defends someone publicly, especially across company lines, people notice.

Do you agree with MJF’s take on Booker T, or do you think the Wrestling Observer voters got it right? Drop your thoughts below and let us know.
