The Students have enjoyed a strong opening, highlighted by a famous 16–10 victory over record champions Heathens. They lead the table on nine points, having picked up a bonus point in the process.
Plascon Mongers are second with eight points from two matches, while defending champions Black Pirates are also on eight points but drop to third due to an inferior points difference.
Victoria Sharks, home to the Kenyan quartet of Paul Mutsami, Warren Kamadi, Humphrey Asiligwa and Israel Makokha, sit fourth after recording one win and one draw.
