The proposed exhibition involving Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather reportedly has a fresh update as, according to Ring Magazine, the match-up could land in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Apr. 25.
An exhibition involving two of the sport’s most successful pay-per-view fighters of all time was first proposed in September 2025 by CSI Sports / Fight Sports. There was little information at the time aside from statements from both Tyson and Mayweather, as seemingly no broadcaster, or venue, had been mentioned.
However, there is now movement on that, as Ring’s Mike Coppinger reported that Congo, formerly Zaire — the host of The Rumble in the Jungle fight in 1974 between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman — is a possible host region.
In a statement sent to Boxing Social at the time, Tyson said he was approached about boxing Mayweather and thought to himself, “No way this happens, but, Floyd said yes.”
Tyson turns 60 years old in June but returned to the ring for the first time in 15 years during the early phases of the coronavirus pandemic, for an exhibition with fellow all-time great fighter Roy Jones Jr. He then fought a professionally sanctioned eight-rounder against Jake Paul four years later, losing a decision to the internet sensation at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Netflix.
“I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!”
Mayweather, meanwhile, said: “I’ve been doing this for 30 years and there hasn’t been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy.”
Since the 50th fight of Mayweather’s pro career, a 10th round stoppage of Conor McGregor in 2017, the unbeaten boxer has been reasonably active on the exhibition circuit, taking part in unofficial bouts alongside the likes of with Tenshin Nasukawa, Logan Paul, Deji Olatunji, Aaron Chambers, and John Gotti III, among others.
Mayweather had been linked with a high-stakes rematch against Manny Pacquiao, in a pro bout, but the Tyson exhibition seemingly remains an option, too.
“You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary,” Mayweather said in a statement sent to Boxing Social, last year.
“I’m the best in the business of boxing.”
He finished: “This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”
