Daniel Jeremiah Mock has Jets Beefing up Trenches in Round 1

Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL network has come out with his second mock draft of the offseason and this time around he has the New York Jets addressing the trenches on both sides of the ball.  While any mock that comes before the start of free agency is largely useless, it’s usually a good idea to take a look at what Daniel Jeremiah is saying.

In this case, he has the Jets taking Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey with pick number two, and Penn State guard Olaivavega Ioane with the sixteenth pick.

Both would fill immediate needs as day 1 starters with the Jets lacking a pass rusher of Bailey’s stature.  That’s not to say the cupboard is bare with Will McDonald and Jermaine Johnson in the fold, but Johnson doesn’t rush the passer as well as Bailey does and McDonald is such a liability against the run that it’s hard to keep him on the field as much as you might like.

At guard, the Jets have some question marks with John Simpson and Alijah Veraj-Tucker. Both are due to hit free agency and Simpson saw a significant drop-off in play and increase in penalties in year two with the Jets, while Vera-Tucker, once again, missed the season on injured reserve.  It would make sense for the Jets to retain at least one, if not both of their guards, but if they feel they can add a blue chip starter at a discount price, they may go in that direction.

Offensive line play will be critical for the Jets in 2026 with quarterback remaining a huge question, so if you’re expecting big things and looking to cash in on futures, take a look at some of the top-rated casinos online.

While we’ve spent some time recently discussing some possible “outside the box” options for the Jets with pick two, Bailey would be a predictable and likable pick in that spot, while Ioane could join Olu Fashanu, Armand Membou and Joe Tippmann in building what would be one of the NFL’s best offensive lines the second they hit the field.
